31 Oct From the Executive Director

Here it is the end of October and the Fall is in full swing. Soon the holidays will be upon us. As we enter the holiday season, remember to take time for yourself away from the hustle and bustle around you. Spend some quiet time and reflect on what makes you who you are. Look in the mirror and give yourself full credit for all that you are and that you do.

In September, we began Class 90 with 15 listener trainees. Welcome them to our family! In November, they will receive their certification in Mental Health First Aid and in December, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills. All show great promise and we look forward to having them come on the lines.

Contact has also been hard at work bringing the empathetic support found on our volunteer hotline to the community. We are starting to create listening communities among the broader public. To date this year, we have educated more than 650 people in active listening skills. We piloted our rescue squad training, Dealing with People in Emotional Distress, and we are in the process of adapting the training for police officers. We are also completing our classroom trainings in active listening, emotional wellness and suicide awareness for high school students. In the Spring, we will complete similar classroom trainings for grades 5-8 and next fall, grades 1-4.

Whether a listener on our lines, a donor, or a community partner, THANK YOU for your support. Your support not only goes toward easing the emotional pain of our callers, it also goes toward making your community stronger and more supportive. Thank you for what you do.
